Prerequisites:
Photo 1: Grades 9 - 12
Students are not required to have any knowledge of art or photography at the introductory level. Students should possess a working knowledge of how to use a computer and the Internet. Students who are in need of ELL support please make your needs known to the teacher so that the correct resources can be provided.
Photography 1
This course covers the fundamentals of photography, the use and care of the camera, film developing, and black and white printmaking. Students will learn lighting techniques and the basics of studio photography. Students will also be introduced to digital photography and computer graphics programs. This course also covers the history of photography, critique, and print presentation. No previous knowledge of photography is required. This course fulfills the Visual/Performing Arts requirement for UC/CSU.
Materials:
Online Access Package includes; laptop with internet connection, School Loop account, school Gmail account. You will need a digital camera. This can be a phone camera or DSLR with an app that allows you to change the shutter speed, f-stop, and ISO.
Academic Integrity
Plagiarism is the act of passing off someone else’s work of ideas as your own and will NOT be tolerated. Assignments may be check using www.turnitin.com by students or by teacher. Any plagiarized assignments will result in a zero and you will not be able to make it up. Virtual Office Hours
Our Photo 1 class will be meeting on Zoom at least one time per week where you can ask the teacher questions about the assignments or feedback. These Zoom meetings will review content and provide an opportunity to connect with the teacher and class assignments. Scheduled Zoom meeting links will be posted on the School Loop website and Google calendar. The times and days are subject to change so check for updates on this every week. The advisory period is a chance for you to ask questions about any assignment and will be held on Wednesday at 1 pm to 1:30 pm. I can also be available by appointment only Monday from 2:30 pm to 4 pm, Wednesday from 1:30 pm to 4 pm, and Friday from 2:30 pm 4:00. M = missing
NP = No participation (if you didn’t turn in something for online work, then it will not be marked as a zero until we return to school or the grading period has passed)
Grading Scale:
A+ 99% or more, A 98-94%, A- 93-90%, B+ 89-88%, B 87-84%, B- 83-80%,
C+ 79-78%, C 77-74%, C- 73-70, D+ 69-68%, D 67-64%, D- 63-60%, F 59% or less.
Class Rules
- All students are expected to treat each other with respect. This includes waiting for your turn before speaking in class, only stating comments that are respectful of other students’ feelings and beliefs, and not claiming another person's work as your own.
- Be logged into the class Zoom by the start of class time
- Participate when appropriate and record your daily activities in the work log
- If you have questions, then send a Loop Mail message from the School Loop website to the teacher. If you are unable to do so then email the teacher at [email protected]
- Do not take photos or videos of the class presentations, other students, or the teacher
- Review announcements and agenda items on the class website every day
- Turn in assignments using School Loop by the due date to get full credit
- If you have questions or need additional help to attend the advisory period Zoom meeting during the advisory period

Class Participation: 3 points a week for 76 days (11%) (228 points)
Students will earn points for participating in class, online discussions, completing the daily work log and virtual office hours. Students will lose points for not working or being off task. Each student must submit a work log by the end of each day on School Loop that includes your name, period, what you worked on each day, and what you still need to work on next time.
